PUBLIC WORKS MECHANIC

The City of Eatonton is seeking a Mechanic to work in the Public Works Department. The selected individual must be capable of performing routine and advanced maintenance and repair of a wide variety of city gasoline and diesel vehicles, including heavy equipment. These duties include changing oil, tire repair, basic and advanced vehicle repair, troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical vehicle systems, and other duties as assigned.

This job requires the selected individual to hold and maintain a valid driver’s license, High School diploma or GED, the ability to read, write and comprehend written or oral directives, to translate those directives into operational plans, the ability to plan and prioritize work and to adjust those plans to meet time limitations.  The person must be able to see, hear, walk, talk, stand, stoop, sit, and carry packages and objects weighing up to 65 pounds. Work is performed in a variety of conditions and is subject to both high and low temperatures. Selected applicant must agree to pre-employment and periodic drug screenings and provide a seven-year driver’s history at the applicant’s expense if selected.  Selected applicant is subject to a probationary period.
