The City of Eatonton is seeking a Payroll / Customer Service Clerk to work in the Office of City Clerk. The successful applicant will perform duties related to the management of employee compensation. Duties include, but are not limited to, collecting and verifying time card information for employees, calculating pay and entering payroll information into payroll software, managing and calculating taxes and deductions, initiating payroll checks and making direct deposits through a bank payment system, issuing statements and maintaining employee payroll records, investigating payroll discrepancies, and preparing and submitting reports as may be required.
This position also serves as a Customer Service Clerk for the City. In this role, the individual will greet customers at a service window, take payments, give receipts, maintain balance in a cash drawer, and assist in preparing bank deposits. This position will perform other duties as required to support the operations of the Office of City Clerk. The individual must be able to multitask, fulfilling payroll obligations while handling telephone calls and serving customers. The selected individual must demonstrate good customer service skills, accounting knowledge, and computer skills.
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, a High School diploma or GED, the ability to read, write, and comprehend complex written or oral directives, to translate those directives into operational plans, the ability to plan and prioritize work, to adjust those plans to meet time limitations. The person must be able to see, hear, talk, walk, stand, stoop, sit, carry packages and objects weighing up to 10lbs, have the mental capacity to attend and pass public finance coursework offered at the University of Georgia. Selected applicant must agree to pre-employment and periodic drug screenings and is subject to a probationary period.
